Most of us have no control over our own lives. We are like a driver, who has let his passengers take control of the steering wheel. We blame others for our past, our present, and thus expect them to also influence our future.

We all have a life to live, and are responsible for how it turns out. The worst nightmare would be meeting the person you were meant to be and realizing that our choices and actions made us fall short of our potential. To see that we have failed in life because we are not even close to the person we were meant to be.

As long as we are alive, we have a chance to change the trajectory of our lives. It is all about grabbing the reins of our own lives and taking charge of where we are now and are going in the future.

  1. Take responsibility. From this moment forward, be responsible for your own life. Realize that those who have affected your life have done so because we allowed them. Acknowledge your role/part in relinquishing control to someone else and take back this control. Our failures from this moment forth our light to be lessons, not an exercise in blame game. Our successes ought to be inspiration for others,a chance to uplift someone who wants to give up already.
  2. The role of opinions is not to direct the course of your life. An opinion is like an advertisement of someone’s taste and point of view, you can take it or leave it. When you make the decision to take control of your life from the hands of others, it includes taking away the power of other’s opinions on how you run your life. Just because someone doesn’t understand where you’re going does not mean they should give you directions. Listen to others opinions, then make your own decision.
  3. Act decisively. Taking the reins is manifested in the decisions one acts out. Life is not about what you say you will do, it is about what you actually get done.
  4. Change the incompatible relationships. Would you board a plane headed to the opposite direction of your destination? Are you maintaining relationships with people who are not headed to where your life is? There is always a conflict of interest and opinion when you are surrounded by people who don’t share your ideals and aspirations. It is easier to surround yourself with people who are going in the same direction as you are, for support, inspiration and encouragement.

You decide every moment of every day who you are and what you believe in, you get a second chance every second. – Tony Robbins.

We have a second chance to make our lives take the shape we want. Grab the reins, and decide the direction your life ought to take.
